Top European airlines Lufthansa, KLM, and Swiss announced on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, that they are extending their suspension of flights to the Middle East amid escalating tensions in the region.
These announcements follow Israeli strikes on Beirut and a warning from a senior White House official that Iran is "imminently" preparing to launch a ballistic missile attack against Israel. KLM has extended the suspension of its once-daily flights to Tel Aviv until the end of the year due to the current situation, according to spokeswoman Elvira van der Vis.
The Dutch airline had already suspended flights to Israel earlier in August 2024, initially set to last until October 26, 2024. Meanwhile, Lufthansa announced it would suspend flights to Beirut through November 30, 2024. Additionally, Lufthansa group flights to Tel Aviv will remain cancelled until October 31, 2024, while flights to Tehran are suspended until October 14, 2024.
